China is described on p. 1879. A new growth route for the synthesis of hollow GaN nanostructures makes use of a precursor that plays the role of both site template and reactant. Use of this technique results in tubular structures built from highly oriented nanocrystals. Both cylindrical and prismatic nanowalled GaN tubes can selectively be synthesized. The microstructure of the GaN tubes is studied, and a growth mechanism is proposed.
